The arms are the last step as they're being magnetized so i can transport this monstrosity effectively. SO! I decided to do a bit of weathering around the jack. I painted him my signature Imberia colors and toned down harsh colors with a bit of devlan mud. to create a worn effect on the surface, I lightly chipped at the fresh coat of devlan mud with the butt of the brush.
This allowed for a grungier look towards the edges and recesses of the model. Battle damage was done by adding spots of tin bitz randomly and filling it in with boltgun.
The most important thing about my theme, however, is the attempt to use water effects on most of my models (excluding infantry). Thunderhead is a giant electrical coil. I thought it would be interesting to have him walking through water as if repelling the tide ( a modern day Moses, if you will). Although some people think it looks more as if he's jumping into the water. Whichever flavor you like, I wanted to add splash effects.
This began by cutting a plastic report cover into jagged little bits and gluing them together to the base to form a conical ring. this gives the impression of an outward splash of water. I then filled the base with Envirotex Lite gloss varnish to both seal in the plastic sheet and provide a sturdy base of water for which to add ripples. For the ripples and splashes, I used a product called Liquitex Gloss Heavy Gel seen below.
This stuff is wonderful. Its easily worked on with a brush and you can mold and shape it as it is a gel-like consistency. By adding it to the base, it brings the effect to life a little better.
After leaving it to dry and touching up a few places, I am pretty happy with the final result.
I still would like to touch up the wave tips and ripples with a splash of white to bring out the foaming waves. I'll upload a final picture when the base is complete.
Comments and criticisms are appreciated! :)
